Perrysburg
Ten miles south of Toledo lies the City and Township of Perrysburg on the Maumee River. Originally planned by the federal government, the 35,000 residents here enjoy neighborhoods developed in a number of old estates by the river. Filled with history, Perrysburg was named for Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, the American victor in the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812. Perrysburg features a historic downtown with Victorian buildings and many fine restaurants and specialty shops. The popular 577 Foundation gives adults and children the chance to explore a nature preserve, a community garden and educational opportunities with a focus on encouraging experimentation, creativity and exploration. As just one of the lifestyle developments in Perrysburg, Levis Commons, is an example of new urbanism and offers shopping, dining, entertainment. A local farmer’s market is held during the summer and early fall in the downtown area and is a great source for locally-grown produce.
